History of Vibrant Pets The Vibrant Pets® Story The idea of Vibrant Pets really started the day my wife, Irina (an award winning Nationally Certified Master Groomer) and I purchased the bankrupted Doggie Wash in Purcellville, VA in 2000. The Doggie Wash was a self service and pet grooming shop with at very bad reputation. Within a year, we were voted in a newspaper poll the number one grooming shop in Loudoun County Va. Unlike most groomers who do not like to carry retail products in their shops, we thought that we had a duty to provide our clients with the best pet products we could find. In 2001 we started limited retail and in 2005 (after the introduction of Vibrant Pets) expanded The Doggie Wash, brought in all natural products which were made in the USA and that first year we were also voted the number one independent pet retail store in Loudoun County VA. As most groomers will attest, most of the dogs and cats they groom and care for have health issues. We surely noticed that at The Doggie Wash. To better serve our clients we searched for products that would help these health issues and to our surprise we found none. Oh, there were bunches of product that were selling buzz words, but none that really showed effectiveness. Indeed, other than general guarantees, none gave effectiveness guarantees. In addition, the labels were confusing at best and it was like comparing an apple to an orange. So, a pet owner was left with buying a supplement, feeding it to their pet, and hoping that over time it would work. Sort of like we humans do. In frustration, we introduced some supplement products for sale in 2002 and were not pleased with any of them. So we knew we had to do something. I called my good friend (and now business partner) Mike Marshall and discussed the problem and we agreed to see if we could find a solution. In researching a solution to the pet’s heath problems we were surprised to find just how confused and void of solutions there were in the supplement market. We started to talk to our clients at The Doggie Wash and were really surprised to hear their pets health problems, Well over 80% of our clients had health issues with their pets. What really floored us were the Vets. It appeared to us that they were putting a band aid on a gushing artery. The use of steroids was rampant and we all know that steroids are used in most cases as a quick fix and in the long run shorten a pet’s life. In addition we found that pet owners knew little about pet nutrition and got most of their information from mass market advertising. We tried and analyzed different supplements and found them questionable at best. We even analyzed a product to the molecular level and found that what was on the label was not what was in the bottle. The next question we had to answer is “why are so many pets having health problems?” The answer was quite clear – they had depressed immune systems. Over time the immune system in humans decreases and evidently we succumb. If our immune system was stronger we would not have the allergies from which we presently suffer. In pets the depressed immune system manifests itself sooner because of the shorter life span and, most importantly, the pets lack of nutrient absorption. Food in a human takes about 40 hours to go through their system, in a dog it takes about 12 hours. God made dogs this way so when they were in the wild and ate rancid meat they would not absorb the pathogens that could kill them. Although a fast acting digestive systems helps a dog prevent diseases it also decreased the absorption rate of their nutrition. So obviously we had to develop a product that increases nutrition absorption. Next, we researched the longest living societies to see if we could gain any insight. The people of Japan live longer than most but this is due primarily to a reduced calorie diet. We did find a group of people on the East Coast of Italy and in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia whose life span was, on average, over 90 years. (The 127 year old lady who died a few years ago was from Georgia.) These societies have a lot in common. For the most part, they were all overweight by our present standards; they drank alcohol, most of them smoked. They also raised goats and made their own yogurt. This yogurt contained a high level of probiotics because it was not subjected to the manufacturing process. Probiotics (Latin for Pro Life) are the good bugs in the digestive system. These good bugs, which are really different types of bacteria, clean the digestive system and breakdown the nutrients for digestion. In searching for the proper probiotics we noticed that what was presently on the market was, for the most part, unstable because the bacteria would begin to degrade as the temperature rose to around 100 degrees F and rapidly became ineffective. After consulting with experts we found 4 probiotics, developed in the mid-west, that are very stable and effective. These probiotics have a much higher tolerance to heat and do not activate until the temperature reaches 140 degrees F. Every week this list increases. To demonstrate just how powerful our formulas really are, we use whole flaxseed. All other products we have found for pets that use flaxseed, the flaxseed is either ground or liquefied. In the ground or liquefied form flaxseed is unstable (adversely affected by heat) and not as potent. Whole flaxseed is stable and far more potent in Omega 3 fatty acids.
